Elementary Art
Elementary art is the fundamental practice of exploration. For many students, much of what is taught and practiced will be experienced for the first time. The joy of this period of discovery and growth is truly monumental.
The framework for the Elementary curriculum is based on state standards, media and technical explorations as well as culture and specific artists. There are also many opportunities to connect with the broader curriculum, teaching interdisciplinary units.
Drawing, painting, collage, mixed media, printmaking and ceramics are at the core of the technical approaches. Each grade level has been designed to give students opportunities to discover new techniques, tools and approaches to creating art.
