DIPLOMA PROGRAM

The Diploma Program is a pre-collegiate course designed for upperclassmen who are interested in developing a cohesive collection of works.  The two year program enables students to take an independent approach to their education.

While the curriculum focuses on the acquisition of knowledge relating to the history, function and conceptual properties of art, students are also required to extend their knowledge by completing research in the Process Journal.  The student directed research allows for a personalized and enriching experience, in which each child centers their research around the mediums, techniques and concepts they are exploring through their own work.  The journal becomes a fundamental tool that documents the development of the studio work, from research and planning, to testing media, techniques and experiments.

Another key practice of the process journal is the ongoing reflecting that students do throughout the development of their work.  The reflections become a tool that the students can use to inform their work, challenge ideas, and document trials and tribulations.  The journal also becomes valuable insight for the teacher and IB assessor, to fully comprehend the extent of knowledge, practice and value the student has gained through the work. The summation of the course includes the preparation of a digital portfolio and curating a professional exhibition.  The work is then assessed by an International Baccalaureate Assessor.  Upon successful completion of the program, students are awarded an IB Diploma or Certificate.
