ADVANCED ART
The Advanced Art course challenges students to consider formal and conceptual qualities of art. The course is a collective class, of students enrolled in Advanced Art II, III and IV. Each group engages in lessons geared towards their prior experience.
The individual curricula focuses on student exposure to art history, technical skill development, exploration of medium and the overall development of creative expression. Students are challenged to work with concepts that engage their creative problem solving. Originality is paramount, to our students' overall engagement and success in the program.
In the Advanced Art program, students experience a broad range of mediums and technical approaches for creating art. In Advanced Art II, students will engage in drawing, painting and printmaking techniques.
Advanced Art III allows students to develop a broader range of skills including mixed media and traditional practices. The goal is for students to gain confidence in their technical practice while expanding their work on a conceptual level.
Art IV is a course that is designed to expose students to higher level concepts and an increased level of independence with technical practice.
Students in the Advanced Art courses also enjoy critique, opportunities for group projects, exhibitions, and community volunteer projects. Conclusively, students are given teacher support with the creation of a digital portfolio to add as a supplement to college applications.
